Originally, there were eighteen havezates in Drenthe, of which only seven now exist. One of these is Havezate Oldengaerde in Dwingeloo, which is also one of the most beautiful and best-preserved manor houses.

The manor house stands amid beautiful gardens and a forest, all of which belong to the Oldengaerde Estate. The entire estate has been a national monument since 2004.
