In 1890 the wealthy Louis van Loon had a new country house built here, La Forêt. During the war the house was occupied by the Germans. A British bombardment caused extensive damage. After the war, part of the estate was sold to the municipality of Doorn for the construction of a cemetery.

In 1963 the estate came into the hands of Bartiméus, an institute for the blind and visually impaired. The house was demolished. Today, residents of Bartiméus work in the garden, which is open to visitors.

This is a place to meet others. Because residents themselves go out into society less, society is instead invited to come here.

You can pick flowers and harvest vegetables and fruit from the unsprayed garden all year round. Enjoy the peace, the tea garden and the special encounters that naturally arise here.
