The Old Bata Factory - Best
Thomas Baťa (pronounced ‘Batya’) founded his shoe factory in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. Through clever entrepreneurship, mechanisation and competitive pricing, he succeeded in turning Bata into one of Europe's largest shoe manufacturers.
The old factory has since undergone a major transformation. Automation and modernisation have reduced the workforce from around 2,500 employees to approximately 80. While the factory once produced a wide variety of footwear, today it focuses entirely on industrial safety shoes with protective toe caps.
The factory site is also home to the Bata Superstore, where visitors can browse and buy an extensive range of footwear, including both fashion shoes and safety footwear.
