Around nine hundred years ago, this embankment was constructed. The work was carried out by labourers who, after building the dyke along the IJssel, began reclaiming the land behind it. The Bishop of Utrecht at the time granted permission for this reclamation, and Klaas Klinkert is believed to have been one of the early settlers.
