Cycle route for ice-cream fans
Bilthoven, Soest, Soesterberg
Are you crazy about artisanal ice cream and do you also love cycling? Then this Cycle Route for Iceoholics is perfect for you. This route takes you past places where the base of your favourite ice cream comes to life.
Along the way, you cycle past kitchen gardens and pick-your-own gardens, where vegetables, fruit, herbs and edible flowers are grown. These are exactly the ingredients ice cream makers use to create surprising flavours – from refreshing sorbets to spiced or floral varieties. You not only get inspired here, but at some locations you can also take something tasty with you for the road.
You will also pass a dairy farm where fresh milk is sold. A great reminder that milk forms the basis of many types of ice cream, from creamy scoop ice cream to yoghurt and soft ice cream.
The route also takes you past several estates, where kitchen gardens traditionally existed and where products such as honey and fruit still come from today. At Landgoed Vollenhoven, you will even find a special ice cellar: an underground space where ice was once stored to cool food and drinks. A beautiful piece of history that shows how long people have been working with preserving and experiencing cold.
Get on your bike, discover where ice cream truly begins and don’t forget to stop every now and then along the way to enjoy a delicious fresh ice cream!
