Cycle route through the Countryside of the Achterhoek
Ruurlo, Lochem, Borculo
In the northern part of the Achterhoek, you'll find the historic villages of Ruurlo, Lochem and Borculo. Along the way, you can completely unwind among the wide-open fields and rural landscapes that characterise this beautiful region of the Netherlands.
One of the most striking highlights along the route is Ruurlo Castle. You can visit the museum inside the castle or take a stroll through its beautiful castle gardens. History enthusiasts will find plenty to admire, with impressive country estates such as Buitenplaats De Wiersse and Huis Ampsen further along the route. You'll also pass several traditional windmills.
Continue through the expansive meadows and past old farmhouses towards Lochem. This charming town is home to many sights and attractions. Even a ride through the historic town centre is worthwhile. But beware of the White Women, the mysterious figures from local folklore.
On your way to the picturesque village of Geesteren, you'll pass Wijnhoeve Kunneman, where you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine from the Achterhoek region. In Borculo, several museums are worth a visit. Or treat yourself to an ice cream at Ice Cream Farm ’t Dommerholt.
